Rep. Emerson Levy (D-Central Oregon) made a motion on the House Floor Monday to pull Senate Bill 83 from the House Committee on Rules. SB 83 repeals Oregon’s wildfire hazard map created in 2021, eliminates associated one-size-fits-all building code mandates, and directs state agencies to develop new model defensible space standards. The motion passed 44-1 and will be second read on the House Floor Tuesday.

“SB 83 returns control back to our communities. The 2025 Legislative Session is over in six days, and I need to go back to my community knowing I did everything I could to protect our community from wildfire risks. Repealing the wildfire maps is an important step in advancing our conversation about wildfire safety in this state,” said Levy.

SB 83 unanimously passed in the Senate on April 22, 2025 and has been sitting in the House Committee on Rules since May 28, 2025.

“I urge my colleagues to recognize the regional benefits of SB 83 and pass this common-sense bill when it comes before them for a vote,” said Levy.

This was the first successful bill pull the Oregon House has seen in 18 years.
