Crook County welcomed U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon to Crook County High School and Crooked River Elementary in a historic event marking the first time a sitting Secretary of Education has visited Crook County. Crook County Commissioner Seth Crawford thanked Cliff Bentz for helping make the visit possible.
At Crook County High School, Secretary McMahon toured Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, including construction, and met with students gaining hands-on skills for the workforce. She also learned about early college opportunities that allow students to earn an associate’s degree by the time they graduate.
At the elementary level, the Secretary reviewed the district’s science of reading program and its impact on improving early literacy outcomes.
“This visit was a great opportunity to highlight the work happening in our schools,” Commissioner Crawford said. “I was proud to help host Secretary McMahon and showcase the opportunities available to Crook County students. I appreciate Crook County School District for rolling out the red carpet and making the visit a success.”
The visit highlights Crook County’s focus on career readiness, academic achievement, and strong community partnerships.
