Lawmaker Threatens Impeachment If Obama Moves Unilaterally on Immigration

The White House(WASHINGTON) — A firebrand conservative lawmaker warns that President Obama faces impeachment by the House if he acts on his own to prevent the deportation of undocumented immigrants.

Republican Congressman Steven King of Indiana told Fox News Sunday, “We’ve never seen anything in this country like a president that says ‘I’m going to make up all immigration law that I choose, and I’m going to drive this thing regardless of the resistance of Congress.'”

The House has already approved a measure to sue Obama for using executive orders to delay the Affordable Care Act’s employer mandate.

However, King says that if the president acts unilaterally to keep millions of migrants from being sent back to their homeland, the House would have no other choice but to start impeachment talks.

While many on the far right would jump at the chance to remove the president from office — still, a far-fetched scheme — House Speaker John Boehner has said that impeachment is not in the cards. However, Boehner may be dealing with a new deck if Obama moves ahead without Congress to ease the humanitarian crisis at the border as well as tackling broader immigration reform.
