$2.5m La Pine Urban Renewal Plan Approved

Deschutes County LogoBEND, OR — The Deschutes County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved an Urban Renewal Plan for the city of La Pine Monday.

The 25-year plan calls for the diverting of a portion of County property revenues and diverting them to the renewal district.

“Tax values are frozen. Any increase in values, or if any new businesses are built, those tax revenues go to the Urban Renewal District to fund the projects,” says Interim City Manager Rick Allen. “It’s really like investing in your future.”

Allen points to efforts in Bend, Redmond and Sisters as examples of what such a plan can do to stimulate community growth.

“We have to make sure that La Pine makes people want to stop, shop, build a business, make a home, build a residence- and now that we’re incorporated, we can move forward using some of these tools that other cities have used throughout Oregon with great benefit.”

County Administrator Tom Anderson’s agenda request estimates $2.5 million to be diverted over the next 25 years.
