City May Use Unspent Funds To Repair NW 14th St.

BEND, OR — The City of Bend is looking into using unspent bond money to repair NW 14th street.

Director of City Growth Management Nick Arnis says the first construction projects to used the $30 million voter approved bond were a great start.

“We came in under budget, we came in on time, so it was really critical, the first three roundabouts that first year,” says Arnis.

Work on the roundabouts on 18th and Empire, Simpson and Mt Washington, as well as Brookswood and Powers Road saved the City money by not paying contractors for additional days of work.

The current major project is the reconstruction of Reed Market Road from 3rd street to 27th.

That project includes cautious and careful installation of a roundabout at 15th.

“There are a lot of utilities that are underneath 15th and Reed Market,” Arnis says. “We have to take the overhead power wires and we have to sink them and put them underground.”

Should the Reed Market project also finish on time and under budget, the City Council may greenlight the remaining estimated $2 million to improve pedestrian safety and access on NW 14th, as well as the quality of the roadway.
