Over 350,000 Sign Petition Against Target's Bathroom Policy

This week, Target announced that transgender people were welcome to use bathrooms and fitting rooms that corresponded with the gender they identified as. The news came in wake of North Carolina’s controversial bathroom law that said transgender people must use the public restroom of their gender of birth.

“We believe that everyone—every team member, every guest, and every community—deserves to be protected from discrimination, and treated equally,” said a statement from the retailer.

Target’s decision immediately created controversy and started the hashtag #BoycottTarget.

The American Family Association released a statement on Wednesday calling for customers to boycott the retail giant because its “harmful policy poses a danger to women and children.”

“Corporate America must stop bullying people who disagree with the radical left agenda to remake society into their progressive image,” said AFA President Tim Wildmon in a statement. “Target’s harmful policy poses a danger to women and children. We think many customers will agree.”

As of Saturday night, more than 350,000 people had signed AFA’s pledge.
