Breaking: A New Fire Breaks out NE of La Pine – Three Campgrounds on Level 1 Evacuation

La Pine, Ore. – Initial attack crews are on scene at a wildfire in the Deschutes National Forest 1.5 miles east of Highway 97 and State Rec Road in La Pine.

Along with ground crews, a helicopter, two single engine air tankers and a bulldozer are fighting the blaze.

Smoke can be seen for miles across the high desert.

Highway 97 could experience some traffic back ups on Highway 97 in the area.

Fire officials have issued pre-Evacuation Level 1 (“Get Ready”) alerts for three campgrounds which include McKay Crossing, Prairie Campground, and Ogden Group Camp,
