Redmond, Ore. – The Redmond Airport will hold a disaster drill today. The training, inside the airfield fence, is not open to the public.
80 People are expected to participate as passengers, some with realistic mock injuries. Firefighters will ignite brush piles to practice extinguishing fires that could be caused by an air crash, and the scenario will also include the realistic likelihood of wet weather.
Many Central Oregon departments will participate including police agencies, health care providers, search-and-rescue workers, 911 workers, and air ambulance companies in this coordinated effort.
The Federal Aviation Administration requires airports the size of Redmond’s to conduct a commercial aircraft disaster training session once every three years.
