Sagebrush Planting in McCaffery Fire Scar
December 8 @ 9:30 am - 12:30 pm
Join us in partnership with the BLM to get Sagebrush plugs planted in the McCaffery before winter comes!
This is the second planting of Sagebrush plugs in the McCaffrey fire scar. The first planting was conducted in March 2025. We’ve been invited again by the BLM to help with planting.
In collaboration with the Bureau of Land Management, we are volunteering our time to help with planting Wyoming sagebrush in the McCaffrey fire scar east of the Redmond airport. Last year, July 6th, 2024, the McCaffrey fire burned 458 acres near the Redmond airport, shutting it down for 3 weeks. The BLM has 200 Wyoming sagebrush plants to re-plant in the fire scar. Sagebrush do not re-seed after fires, so it is imperative for land managers to plant sagebrush after intense fire burns. BLM will have an augur to make planting easier. Volunteers can bring gardening gloves and gardening kneel pads/sit pads. An email will be sent out on exact location to meet and park. Expect to complete volunteering by noon.
