Deschutes County Releases Proposed Budget

deschutes-county-3

Deschutes County has released its proposed budget for fiscal year 2027. The County Budget Committee will review the proposal during a series of meetings held on May 12, 13 and 14 and will make recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners, which will consider the budget for final adoption.

This proposed fiscal year 2027 budget continues to take a careful approach to managing public resources during a time of rising costs and an uncertain revenue outlook. It protects core services, maintains costs carefully and helps the county plan responsibly for the future.

“Inflation, rising personnel costs, uncertainty around state and federal funding, and the needs of our growing community continue to put pressure on our budget,” County Administrator Nick Lelack said. “I’m proud of the collaboration and hard work our entire team put into developing this proposed budget. Staff continue to find creative ways to reduce costs, improve efficiency and make the best use of county resources while protecting essential services for our community.”

The total proposed operating budget for FY 2027 is $437.8 million, which is $1.4 million, or 0.31%, higher than the current fiscal year’s revised budget.

The County Budget Committee includes the three Deschutes County commissioners and three appointed community members. It will meet May 12-14, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Deschutes Services Building, 1300 NW Wall St., Bend. The public is encouraged to attend in person or virtually. Meeting details will be posted at  deschutescounty.gov/meetings.
