Bend Park and Recreation District is teaming up with the Deschutes County Historical Museum for a new monthly opportunity to learn about Bend’s history.
The Hollinshead-Matson Homestead Museum, located in Hollinshead Park, offers visitors a look back to life in Central Oregon in the 1940s. Community members are invited to stop in for a free tour and hear stories about farming and life in Bend from Sharron Rosengarth, one of the Matson family children who grew up in the homestead house. The Oregon Heritage Commission recently selected Sharron as a Standout Heritage Volunteer for her contributions at Hollinshead history.
The Hollinshead museum is open on the second Saturday of each month from May to October, 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A special holiday event is held in December. No reservations are needed. The 2026 open house dates are May 9, June 13, July 11, August 8, September 12, October 10, and December 12.
Museum events are hosted by Sharron Rosengarth and Bend Park and Recreation District, with support from volunteers and staff at the Deschutes County Historical Museum.
Private tours for small groups may be available by appointment. Contact info@deschuteshistory.org for scheduling.
