Bend’s newest cultural hub steps onto the scene this summer, blending culture, cuisine, and community, according to info provided by Bend Central District:
Spanning roughly 200 acres immediately east of the Bend Parkway near downtown, the Bend Central District (BCD) is home to a vibrant collection of local shops and businesses, offering everything from innovative cocktails and globally inspired cuisine to rare books, exotic plants, and creative gathering spaces. As the district continues to take shape, a robust lineup of summer events, a standout dining scene, and boutique accommodations are fueling its growing appeal.
Happenings & Highlights
The BCD’s energetic spirit comes to life through a summer lineup of events and weekly programming. At the center of it all is the inaugural BCD Block Party on June 27, bringing together local talent, artists, and makers for a day of community-driven celebration. Expect a lively street festival atmosphere with live music, fashion, comedy, theater, and immersive visual art experiences.
Housed within Somewhere That’s Green, a beloved plant shop filled with native and exotic houseplants and known for its lively calendar of events, is the Greenhouse Cabaret, an intimate, 65-seat theater experience led by Broadway-trained founder John Kish. This summer’s lineup includes Liza’s Lounge “Rebellion” (June 4 – 6) and Angels in America Part 1: Millennium Approaches (Aug. 7- Sept. 5), promising bold, immersive performances in a one-of-a-kind setting.
Just down the block, Dogwood at the Pine Shed, serves as a magnetic social hub known for buzz-worthy cocktails, food trucks, and a rotating mix of live music, DJs, and weekend karaoke. Oregon Spirit Distillers is another neighborhood cornerstone, offering curated spirit tastings, music, and signature events like the annual Oregon Whiskey Festival (Sept. 18 – 19).
Eat & Drink
The district’s culinary and beverage scene is as diverse as it is exciting. Funky Fauna Artisan Ales, the area’s first craft brewery, specializes in saison-style beers fermented using wild yeast collected from the Central Oregon air. Canteen Bar at Campfire Hotel draws both locals and visitors with its design-forward space and inventive drink menu. And Hosmer Bar, a tucked-away gem inside the Waypoint Hotel lobby, creates an inclusive beverage experience where cocktails and zero-proof creations share the spotlight.
For a satisfying bite, MidCity SmashedBurger, Burrito Sunrise, El Sancho, Laughing Planet, Fire on the Mountain, and Colima Market deliver something for every craving. Food truck culture thrives here as well, with The Pine Shed and Midtown Yacht Club hosting a wide array of globally inspired options that reflect Central Oregon’s ever-evolving dining landscape.
Create & Gather
Creativity and community are at the core of the BCD, with gathering spaces and artistic enclaves playing a vital role in the district’s identity. Open Space Event Studio provides a flexible, contemporary venue for performances, workshops, markets, and community events. The property’s three studios offer more than 2,700 square feet of adaptable event space, hosting everything from an upcoming Juneteenth celebration led by local community organizers (June 20-21) to theater and film camps throughout the summer. The Open Arts Center fosters connection through weekly Teen Open Creative Hours and Adult Open Art Nights, offering free, drop-in opportunities for both teens and adults to explore and express their creativity.
Stay & Play
At the heart of it all, Campfire Hotel serves as the ideal basecamp for exploring everything the BCD has to offer. With 100 renovated, camp-inspired guest rooms, an on-site pool and hot tub, and ample outdoor gear storage, it’s designed for both relaxation and adventure. Guests and locals alike can gather around the community fire pit, enjoy drinks at Canteen bar, or take part in weekly fun like Swim Club Sundays.
Nearby, Waypoint Hotel reflects Bend’s landscapes and lifestyle with a modern-meets-rustic design and thoughtfully curated amenities, including a fitness center, guest laundry, bike rentals, and a bike maintenance room. The restored boutique property offers a welcoming, design-forward stay that connects guests to both the city and the surrounding outdoors.
