The Pine Mountain Fire is at 2,589 acres with a decrease in acreage due to mapping refinement following an infrared flight. The fire is 70% contained. Yesterday, firefighters declared the eastern edge of the fire perimeter, consisting primarily of grassy flats, contained.
Sunday, mop up continues along smoldering sections of the fire perimeter with residual heat. Specialized equipment called a skidgine and a Rapid Extraction Module Support (REMS) Team are aiding safe operations in the hard to access, rocky, steep terrain southwest of the summit of Pine Mountain. Firefighters are patrolling around the clock for changes in fire activity.
Resources assigned to the Pine Mountain Fire include four hotshot crews, one dozer, seven engines, five water tenders and forty overhead personnel.
The Bureau of Land Management has issued an emergency temporary closure of public lands near the Pine Mountain Fire. The closure is intended to reduce conflicts with fire crews, support suppression operations and protect public safety and natural resources.
